National Bible Bee 2009

Melody did very well at the National Bible Bee! Although she did not place in the top 20, she was grateful for the opportunity to memorize God's word in a focused way.

Here are a few pictures from the competition:

The oral rounds are finally done! We can relax!

Much time was spent at the "roundtable" - mostly waiting!

The Alessios were thrilled to see Lucy place in the top 20.

Thursday - Healthcare protest

Today went to the Capitol to protest along with thousands of other upset citizens. It was great to hear Michelle Bachmann, Mark Levin and other conservatives voice their strong opposition to this outrageous bill.
Here are some pics from the protest:

Someone from the New Republic interviewed Dad

We ran into some people from the Bible Bee there!

Bryson for President!!!

Long lines going into the Congressional office buildings....

It was a lot of fun!

Wednesday - DC

On Wednesday we went into Washington D.C. to do some sightseeing and to drop off Melody and Mom at the hotel for the Bible Bee.
We went up to the top of the Washington Monument

Here are a couple views from the top:

Monday & Tuesday - trip down and visiting with cousins

We arrived at our Aunt Sharon's house in VA Monday night. We had a very uneventful trip besides the DC traffic, which is an adventure every time...

Parking garage light painting; see the hearts?

Oh Joe!

On Tuesday, we visited Manassas (site of the Battle of Bull Run) with our Virginia cousins, the Holtgrieves.

Checking out the markers

Monument to those killed in the battle.

Statue of Stonewall Jackson

All of the cousins

The Stone House, which was used as a hospital by both sides

We then went over to the Holtgrieves' house for lunch and some fun in the woods.

The Rope Swing over the creek

Back at Aunt Sharon's house for dinner.

We kids know that the shed roof is the place to hang out after dinner!
