Three little kittens - so joyfully they did cry

This is a very interesting experience that happened to us recently:

Just before we left for our trip to the Bible Bee in Chicago,
these three cats followed the boys home.

Aren't they cute? They are eating old Y2K food!

So of course the kids start playing with them-

We tried to give them to a neighbor the morning we were leaving, but she had to bring them back.

We didn't have time to take them to the Humane Society,
since we were just getting into the van to leave.

So, we left for Chicago with the cats in the van; when we saw their mother cat down the road, we dropped the kitties off to be reunited with their dear mama. As we drove off, we wondered what would become of these furry friends.

The drama that occurred while we were gone exceeded our wildest imagination.
Our next-door neighbor was checking for packages while we were gone and noticed the three little kittens sleeping on our porch loveseat. Being a true animal lover, she called around to see if anyone would want these cuties. As no one responded, she took them to the Humane Society. Lo and behold, when she returned, she found that her son's teacher had called back to say that their family would take all three of the little kittens!  What a break for those kitty cats!

And who would that kitty-lover's husband happen to be? Michigan State Senator Alan Sanborn, who lives just a couple of miles away! You'd better believe that these will be the most conservative, politically-incorrect kittens that have ever graced the rural community of Richmond Township!

He named them Mitt (Romney), Rush (Limbaugh), and Newt (Gingrich)!

Quite the saga, don't you think?

(Thanks, Mom, for the guest post!)

Our Christmas Tree!

The day after Thanksgiving is our traditional
time to get our Christmas tree!

We always go to a tree farm and cut one down.

Today it was very, very cold and windy!

Here are a couple of pics:

"Is this the right one?"

Thanksgiving Day....

We had a great time today!

Mashing the potatoes

Look at all the delicious food!

Food, Fun, and Fellowship!

"You caught me!

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today is a day for remembering the blessings that the Lord
has graciously bestowed on us and our families.

(We should do it on other days as well!!)

Here is a great article by Doug Phillips our family enjoyed called
Seven Things that your Family can do to this Thanksgiving.

This is also a very special Thanksgiving for our family,
since we just visited Plimoth Plantation less than three months ago!
We can visualize exactly where these historic events took place!

for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

Fun Times in Lansing...

Friday night and Saturday I had the privilege of going to Lansing
for the Silver Bells parade, and to spend some time with some friends.

We had a great time together, discussing a wide range of topics,
and tons of food, fun, and fellowship!

The view of the parade from the back row:(

Me, David, Philip and Christian
in front of Michigan's official CHRISTmas tree!

"Wow, that tree is tall!"

The fireworks over the Capitol building were fabulous!

After the fireworks, we walked through the Capitol building.

One of the guys I was with is an intern for Senator Alan Cropsey,
so we stopped by his office, talked with a staffer, and took some pictures.

Me at Senator Alan Cropsey's desk

I made my speciality for breakfast - pancakes! (some people call them flap-jons!)

I'm all mixed up!

The finished product!

David and I are ready to dig in!
Food for one and all!
I had a great time in Lansing, and am grateful to everyone who helped to
make this trip possible!

A big thank-you to the Wingrove Family for hosting us us ,
and Mr. Wingrove in particular for all the great pictures!

I am especially thankful to Mom, for driving all the way out to Lansing
to pick me up, which is 204 miles roundtrip!

Bible Bee Nationals 2010 Highlights UPDATED!

-UPDATED 11/18/10-

There is a funny thing that happens when you make a video like this.
Maybe some of you will understand.
You watch it, usually about once, and find something wrong with it,
or something that you missed.
And once you start editing again, you just can't stop!

Well, that's what happened with this video!
Multiple, multiple plays and innumerable edits later, I think this
video is finally PERFECT! (at least for tonight!)

No, seriously, I am very, very pleased with how this second edit turned
out, and encourage you to watch this newly updated video.

Same theme, majority of the same pictures, but the new
video flows much better, and is much more refined.

Thanks for your understanding!

Here is a little video I made of highlights from our trip to Chicago
for the 2010 Bible Bee Nationals!

Hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it!

We're home!

We just arrived home about an hour ago!

This morning we were able to go to church at Victory Baptist Church,
which is pastored by Jim Loller, in New Lenox, IL.

We had the opportunity to minister in music during their morning service.

"Give us this day our daily bread"

Pastor and Mrs. Loller and our family

This trip has been a remarkable opportunity for Melody and our
entire family, but the most important thing our family has gained from
this trip is a new appreciation for memorizing God's Word!

Bible Bee luncheon and Celebration dinner

The Bible Bee put on several meals and events throughout the weekend.

We were able to attend a luncheon with Bill Gothard,

Our family with Dr. Gothard

After the final rounds were over, there was a Celebration dinner
for all the contestants and their families.

It was a special time of awards and recognizing the
hard work that went into the 2010 National Bible Bee!

The 2010 Bible Bee Nationals has been an incredible experience for us all!

We want to commend all the contestants for their hard work,
and hope to see many more young people
spend quality time memorizing the Word of God!

The senior finals....

The Senior final round was a very stirring and exciting experience!

We all are very proud of Melody for this great achievement,
and salute her for her effort and diligence.

The six Senior finalists

Melody placed sixth in the 2010 National Bible Bee!

Our family rejoices with Melody in all God has done this week,
and over the last several months!
