SSI promotion

We had an opportunity yesterday to do a promotion for the
Student Statesmanship Institute summer program at the
Romeo Area Tea Party.

Our five oldest and 4 other young people did a brief skit showing what the final legislative session at SSI is like, complete with speeches, open debate, and a final vote in which the audience participated.

The bill we debated was a ban on cell phone use by teenagers ages 16-18 while driving. The bill passed 45-24.

It was a great success and everybody loved it!

Here are a couple of pics-

Our group of students that presented the SSI skit.

All of us with Amy Hawkins (a fellow SSI alum!) executive director of
Citizens for Traditional Values, a grassroots action group based in Lansing.

"First of all then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all that are in authority, so that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all godliness and dignity"

Port Huron Tea Party

The Heritage String Quartet played at a Port Huron Tea Party rally recently.

There were probably 250-300 people there.

State attorney general Mike Cox spoke about his healthcare lawsuit.

Hey!
Joe here asking you to sign the
Michigan Citizens for Healthcare Freedom Petition.
This petition would put a question on the November ballot to exempt Michigan from Obamacare.

JH MACS 2010

Anna and Joseph participated in the Michigan Association of Christian Schools fine arts competition on Friday. They worked very hard and are grateful to the Lord for the gifts He has given them.

Anna won first place in 7th grade string solo.

She also won 2nd place in sacred keyboard solo

A few cheerful kids of the rabid fan mentioned in a previous post.

Joseph performed his string solo very well!

Sammy and Anna

Some friends of ours doing duet acting.

Anna and Joseph did a string duet which took 1st place.

Looks like trouble!

A neat pic Grandpa took of the piano duet with Anna and Haley.

Anna and Jordan won 2nd place in small vocal ensemble.

Joe got honorable mention for his picture of a sunset over Lake Ontario at The Barn.

That's all till next year!

Does she have any teeth left?

We did a post a while ago in which Mary had lost one of her front teeth.

Well, she recently lost the other one!

I have included the pics from the previous post for comparison.

Going...

Going....

Gone!

Long time no post

Hi everyone-

Sorry for not posting for so long!

Our family has been down with really bad fevers and chills for the last week, so we are not doing so hot. (or are we!)

Here is a little humor for our situation from Melody's grammar lesson:

"In the wee hours of the morning on Monday, Mary woke Melody.
She, the poor dear, was sick.
Melody, in the upstairs bathroom down the hall, gave a drink to her.
After cleanup, sleep was a problem for them.
They told their parents, a lovely couple, in the morning."

See if you can find all the prepositional phrases and appositives!

(this was not my idea! Pretty funny though - thanks Mom and Mel!)

Also wanted to let you know about a Student Statesmanship Institute promotional our five oldest and several other kids are doing. (if you've never heard of SSI click here.)

We are basically having a brief overview of what SSI is all about and then holding a mini mock legislature session. We are actually having a portion of the audience vote on the bill after we have the floor debate.

This promotion will be held at the Romeo Area Tea Party general meeting this Monday, the 26th.

The meeting is held at: Capital Banquet Center, 12350 31 Mile Rd, Romeo MI 48065

Here is the tea party website for more details: http://romeoareateaparty.org/wordpress/?p=93

Hope you can come!

Last thoughts....

On Sunday night we went to Joshua's violin recital in Nashville
(about an hour and a half away).
Relaxing in the van

The concert-goers

Two very enthused concert-goers!

Joshua played very well.

We had a very fun time in Alabama, but as always, it is exciting when we get back into Michigan!

There's no place like home!
