A much overdue Lansing update...

It has been a while since I gave you all an update on what's going on with me (Jon) over in Lansing!

Probably the biggest news is that I wrapped up my internship with Senator Mike Green after a year-and-a-half stint to start a part-time position with Michigan Family Forum, a family values advocacy group based in downtown Lansing! It is a very exciting development in my life, and I am looking forward to seeing many good things happen over this summer!

As part of a project that MFF is doing for the upcoming election, I had the opportunity to attend some training over in Milwaukee, WI, which just so happened to be the week before the recall election for Governor Scott Walker! So, after the training was over, I and some others stayed in Wisconsin, and helped do some campaigning for Wisconsin Family Action, (an organization very similar to MFF)

Apparently, some warring neighbors!

We campaigned with some students from Patrick Henry College

It was a lot of fun, and obviously our efforts did pay off in the end!

Back in Lansing, I had the opportunity to attend the 2012 Michigan Prayer Breakfast.
Here are a couple of pics from our time there.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette gives
David and I a lesson in campaigning - always pour coffee for everyone!

Earlier this month, I had the great privilege of being a recipient of the
2012 Frank Fitzgerald Public Service Award. This award is named after the late
Frank M. Fitzgerald, a Michigan legislator that died while in office.
One of Representative Fitzgerald's greatest accomplishments was the implementation
of the Graduated Drivers License here in Michigan.

A little more about the Fitzgerald award:
"The Frank M. Fitzgerald Public Service Award honors dedicated young volunteers in the Michigan Legislature. Above and beyond their legislative service, Fitzgerald scholars also are recognized for their abilities in academics, communicating and volunteering."

Here are a couple of pics from the award ceremony:

... and also my Mom's Junior High science teacher!!

After the awards ceremony, we went over to the Senate Chamber, where we
were recognized by the Senators and staff..

I also took our family over to see where I have interned in Senator Green's office
for the last year and a half...

Rebecca wanted to challenge the "Big Kitty"

We also stopped by to see our former state representative, Andrea LaFontaine!
We were very sad that we moved out of her district, but are getting
involved politically in our new area...

-Andrea and us-

Best wishes to Andrea as she seeks re-election in a re-drawn district this fall!

So, that's a little update on what's going on with me in Lansing!

P.S. If any of you here locally in SE Michigan are looking to do some volunteering
for the  upcoming election, get in touch with me, and I will send you some information
about the project I am working on - Volunteers are needed!!!
