Easter 2014

On Easter Sunday, we had a get-together with Mom's side of the family.

Gotta' love the hat!

Our wonderful grandparents - they look great in pink!
They must have called each other!

We had our traditional egg-breaking contest.

In the end, Melody was the winner! She beat 13 competitors!

Goofy people :)

The whole Birchard family!

Making Sarmale on Good Friday...

Every other year, our family on Mom's side makes Sarmale,
a traditional Romanian dish (basically, stuffed cabbage).
Here are some of the pics we took throughout the day.

The girls colored hard-boiled eggs for an egg breaking contest on Sunday!

Lots of pans!

I (Lydia) did some of the meat mixing

Good teamwork

Gideon hard at work

The pros can do the hard work really fast :)

Josiah worked on the ham

Rolling the Sarmale... put in the pans.

In the end, we rolled 216 Sarmale!

Plus, we used 53 pounds of sauerkraut!

A delicious lunch awaited us after we finished the Sarmale!

Y'all may remember 2 years ago when we did this video showing how we made sarmale:

Here's a video from this year of Rebecca making sarmale:

Snowfall record!!!

On the morning of April 15, we woke up to 3" of snow on the ground and 25 degrees!
The previous day had been 65 degrees and sunny! That's Michigan for you, and we love it!!

This snowfall puts us at 94.8 inches for the season, which is the most since the winter of 1881-82!

In other words, we've been through the snowiest winter in the last 133 years!!!

Last time for the sled this season (or not, you never know in MI :)

By the end of the day it was pretty much all gone

Can you find the design made by the sled skis??

"The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come,
and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land."

Jon and Mr. Holliday matched on a recent Sunday, so we took a picture!
Mr. Holliday was the one who convinced Jon to play viola!
He was also Jon's viola teacher for several years.

Have a great day!

A birthday party!

A couple of weeks ago, we had a birthday party for Grace, Joseph, and Rebecca!

The little bookworm :)

One of the gifts Rebecca got was a scarf and "19 kids and counting Season 4"!

A fun gift from Jon - jumper cables for Grace & a hat for Joseph

Can the stand get taller than Grace?

"Happy Birthday!"

We love y'all and thank the Lord that He brought you into our lives!

A Bible Bee friend...

Some of you folks from Bible Bee may remember Sophie LaFleur.
Well, we had the privilege of having her and two other young ladies over to our house!
They were traveling in the Faith Chorale and it just so happened that they came to our church!

Fellowshipping around the dinner table

The Chorale was such a blessing to our church and it was great to see Sophie again too!
We pray for God's blessings on Sophie's upcoming wedding in May!
