What happened at home...

The three youngest girls and Mom did some fun activities while we older kids were at SSI. Some of them include writing their own newspaper, going to the Detroit Zoo, and having a tea party!

Tired from a long day...

Sunday
When we got home from a day full of activities, we brought the full size mattress and the tent up from the basement, and Buk’s (Rebecca) mattress down from upstairs in our girls’ room. Then we brought down all of our stuff like pillows, toothbrushes etc. After that, we played a few games and then Mom read a story to us and we went to bed. Julia said her stomach was feeling bad, so she and Mom went into the bathroom and Julia threw up. But she went to sleep after that, as did all of us.

Monday
On Monday morning when Julia and I first got up Julia said, “Let’s set up the tent.” So we set up the tent. By that time, Mom and Buk were awake, so we set up everything in there and did our Bible Study.. Then we ate breakfast. After breakfast, we played in our tent for awhile. We went to a funeral and there a man on bagpipes played Amazing Grace. Right before lunch, Mom took us to see the place where her house used to be that she first lived in, which is

torn down now. We went out to lunch to Pasquales after the funeral. After the funeral luncheon, we came home. We were SO full from Pasquales that we decided to wait to eat dinner a few hours after the regular time that we usually eat dinner. We played in our tent and worked on our surprise for Mom (We’ll tell you about that tomorrow). Then we made Pigs in a Blanket. The recipe is in The Three Little Pigs’ Gazette. We fried up the extra sausages that we didn’t have enough crescent rolls for, and ate dinner. After dinner, we did jobs and family worship, read a story, and went to bed.

Why there should be a mini SSI
by Mary, age 11

To start off, I think there should be an SSI program for us younger kids who are not yet old enough to attend SSI. It would be great for teaching leadership with a biblical worldview to children who are of a young age. Also, since I am in a big family, I miss my siblings even more since I am with them almost all the time. A mini SSI would help to take away the loneliness we feel when our siblings go to SSI. There’s always someone to play with when they’re home. Well, I hope that someday in the future there will be a mini SSI for those who can’t attend SSI.

Scripture of the day:
Isaiah 40:31
Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.

Julia, Buk, and I got up at 7:00, and Mom was still asleep. We did our Bible Study and then we went to sleep in our tent. I heard Mom get up at about 8:00 and I lay still ‘cause I heard Mom looking in. Then Jon and Mom talked for a little and Mom looked in again. But then we woke up and got out of the tent. After that, we ate breakfast and went outside to weed the garden. Then, we came inside and Mom told us to change, because she had a surprise! We went down the driveway and down the road and turned into Woodfield!!!!! Brad and Mandy live there with their little girl, Clara. As soon as Mom turned in, Julia leaned over to me and whispered, “We’re going to see Brad and Mandy!” But since Brad was at work, it was just Mandy and Clara. We picked up Mandy and Clara, and then headed off. We drove down I-75 for about 30 minutes, and then we turned into Great Lakes Crossing Outlets! Julia had gone to a campaign parade and had gotten 2 free kids meal coupons to Rainforest Cafe! We immediately made the connection and knew that we were going to Rainforest Cafe! As we walked, we discovered that the Rainforest Cafe was on the other side of the mall. Julia held Clara all the way there. When we got there, Mom took a picture of all of us in front of the Rainforest Cafe sign.

As we were walking in, they had an alligator that moved and made sounds. Clara loved it! Then we walked in. They have a fish aquarium that is on both sides and on the top that is shaped like an arch. When we sat down at our table and heard all the animals making their various noises, Clara was intrigued! After we ate, we went over into the shop and heard Tracy Tree. When we were walking back to the car, I discovered that I left my bag at the table we were eating at in the Cafe! We walked quickly back and it was still there! Phewf! We walked all the way to the car. After we dropped Mandy and Clara off, we went home, and our surprise for Mom was a miniature tea party! We took naps and did other stuff. Then we went to Kroger, Kmart, and Walmart. We came home and made dinner, which was Digiorno pizza. We did jobs, showers, family worship, our storytime, and went to bed.

Benefits of a mini SSI
by Julia, age 9

Today we will be looking at a continuation of yesterday’s article: Why there should be a mini SSI. Today’s title is: The Benefits of a mini SSI! Let’s get a head start on the benefits:  Friendship. You will probably make many new friends at our new project: a mini SSI. Just like Mary was saying, another thing is if you have lots of older siblings like I do, it is so much less lonely when you have friends around you. Kindness. If you don’t think you are the “so kind” person, then this is a good place to practice being kind. Humility. If you always are a prideful sort of person, then come to us. We will give you some passages from the Bible for you to learn from! And one more quality that I think is SO important for us to learn. Patience. I think that for some people this is easy, but for some it is not. This is a character quality everybody should know!

Scripture of the day:
2 Thessalonians 3:3
But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
